"The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
— Dr Seuss
When was the last time you learnt something?
At HOL we hardly ask ourselves this question. Since we’re in the business of ideas and knowledge, we’re learning on the job all the time. And what’s even better is that once a month, we have our own “out-of-classroom learning experience”.
Yep, just like the kids in school.
In August we headed to the National Library for a fabulous curator-led tour of From the Stacks, an exhibition of rare books and documents from Singapore’s early days.
What a privilege it was to lay our eyes on the letters that Sir Stamford Raffles had so passionately written to convince the British East India Company to set up a trading post in Singapore.
Then in September we learnt about the art and science of artefact conservation during a tour of the Heritage Conservation Centre.
New findings, fresh insights — that’s why we like our jaunts to the different corners of Singapore.
But that’s not all. These are also wonderful opportunities for our people to engage in deeper conversations and share experiences with one another, to learn and grow together as a team.
We agree with one of our favourite children’s book author, Dr Seuss: The more that we learn, the more places we’ll go.
And in our case, we can’t help but also say this: The more places we go (to), the more we’ll learn!
